About the Lab

The Eco-Energy-Environmental Flow Physics (E3FP) Lab under the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at Colorado State University (CSU) is located in the world-known Hydraulics Laboratory at CSU Engineering Research Center.

Our lab is equipped with state-of-the-art image-based flow measurement equipment, such as Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV), Particle Tracking Velocimetry (PTV), and Planar Laser-Induced Fluorescence (PLIF), which allows us to investigate detailed flow physics driving complex interactions and generate unique, extensive data sets to answer fundamental and applied engineering questions. Our research focuses on Eco-hydraulics, Sediment Transport, Environmental Fluid MechanicsNatural-based solutions, and Hydropower/Hydrokinetic Energy. We use high temporal- and spatial-resolution images to study flow-biota-structure interactions involving both artificial hydraulic structures and live organisms.
